CalFresh, also federally known as SNAP, is one of the most important programs to reduce poverty and hunger. Over 300,000 people in Alameda and Santa Clara counties rely on CalFresh. Across California, this program keeps countless families out of poverty every year.

Many of you are rightly concerned about the sweeping Republican federal cuts. By decimating safety net programs, the federal government is funding massive tax breaks for corporations and billionaires. As families starve and struggle to pay for health care, the wealthiest Americans are reaping even bigger windfalls.

Amid direct federal attacks on working families, California must step up. Our government must serve the people, not the rich and powerful.

There’s no better way to honor Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in May than by giving back and supporting our neighbors. Your time and energy can make a real difference and bring our community together.
